Pool and Beach
Posted: February 10, 2013 Filed under: Cancun 1 CommentAfter a good night’s sleep, we got up and had breakfast at “Havana” overlooking the beach. They have good Mexican breakfasts with tortillas, spicy sauces and eggs. For the less adventuresome, there is more standard Norte Americano fare.
After a leisurely breakfast we made our way back to our palapa by the pool and soon the morning happy hour arrived (same price; double the size.) Swimming and talking, we made the time pass until it was time to order a pizza. People watching became a main occupation until after lunch we roused ourselves to take a long walk south along the beach.
After our walk, we came back to the pool, cooled off with a quick swim and headed back to our rooms to shower and head down to a taco bar by the golf course. After dinner, it was back to the room to start packing for tomorrow’s departure. Good thing; there is a limit to the time one can sit by the pool having food and cold drinks delivered (or is there?)
French Chef at Italian Restaurant
Posted: February 9, 2013 Filed under: Cancun 2 CommentsFor Bob’s birthday dinner we had reservations at the nice Italian restaurant on the property. After we sat down and started looking at the menu, it looked much more French than Italian. We ordered and late in the meal the chef came out to check on us. Turns out that he was French, spending a couple of the winter months in Cancun. He was delighted to speak French with Patty and autographed our place mat that he was featured on and we had delightful chat with him. Dinner exceeded our expectations and was very good.
Quick Trip to Cancun
Posted: February 9, 2013 Filed under: Cancun 1 CommentWith an unexpected break in our schedules, Patty and I were able to take Patty’s brother Bob and his wife Lenore’s invitation to join them in Cancun for his birthday and our wedding anniversary. We flew out on Thursday afternoon, connected in Houston, and got into Cancun about 9:00 pm. Bob and Lenore have a two bedroom place at the Mayan Palace and had offered us the second bedroom.
The resort is down the road from Cancun about 45 minutes and between the jungle and the beach. The main attraction is the massive pool as the beach has a lot of rocks and coral on the ocean edge.
The resort is isolated, so the amenities located at the resort have a captive audience. Luckily, there are many restaurants and the food is very good.
Bob and I braved the rocks, coral and surge and went out snorkeling and saw a lot of tropical fish. After our exercise, it was time to spend the rest of the afternoon in the poolside palapa testing the bartender’s skills.
The iguanas seem to have adjusted to poolside life quite well.
